A vacuum pump intake filter element is a key component in a vacuum pump system, mainly used to filter out solid particles, fine dust, oil mist and other impurities in the incoming air, safeguarding the normal operation of the vacuum pump and prolonging its service life. The following is a detailed account:

Functions

 

Protecting Pump Components: By preventing solid particles and fine dust from entering the vacuum pump, it reduces mechanical wear and tear of internal components like the rotor, stator and bearings, enhancing the operational reliability of the pump.

Maintaining Vacuum Degree: It ensures that the air entering the pump is clean, preventing impurities from affecting the sealing performance of the pump and maintaining the vacuum degree of the vacuum system.

Improving Pump Efficiency: A clean intake air stream enables the pump to operate more smoothly, reducing energy consumption and improving pumping efficiency.

Common Materials

 

Wood Pulp Paper: Suitable for dry dust environments below 100°C. It can achieve a filtration efficiency of over 99.9% for 3-micron dust particles. It has a large dust-holding capacity and is cost-effective, but is not suitable for humid environments and cannot be washed.

Polyester Nonwoven Fabric: Applicable at temperatures below 100°C, it can be used in humid environments and is washable. It is available in various filtration precisions, with a common precision achieving a filtration efficiency of over 99% for 5-micron particles. It costs slightly more than wood pulp paper filters.

Stainless Steel: Can be used in high-temperature environments up to 200°C and in corrosive environments. Common precisions are 300 mesh, 500 mesh and 800 mesh, with relatively lower precision compared to other materials. It can be repeatedly washed and used, is widely applicable, but has a high cost.

Borosilicate Glass Fiber: It has high temperature resistance and good chemical stability. It can effectively filter out fine particles and has a relatively high filtration efficiency.

Types of Filters

 

L-Style Vacuum Pump Inlet Filters: Also known as inline right-angle filters, they are connected to the vacuum inlet of the vacuum pump. The inlet port is on the side of the filter and the outlet port is at the bottom, with the filter element in between. They are available with a 5 micron/99% efficiency option.

T-Style Vacuum Pump Inlet Filters: Also called inline straight-through filters, they are connected to the vacuum inlet of the vacuum pump. Both the inlet and outlet ports are at the same vertical level on the filter, with the filter element in between. They are available with efficiencies such as 0.1 micron/99.995%, 15 micron/99% and 5 micron/99%.

Centrifugal Force Extreme Duty Inlet Filters: These filters use centrifugal force to separate contaminants from the incoming air and discharge them through a port. The intake air passes through angled louver plates on the top of the unit, causing the rotor to turn and filter the air, which is then released through the bottom outlet. They are suitable for dusty or dirty environments.

Maintenance and Replacement

 

Regular Cleaning: The filter element should be regularly cleaned to remove dust and impurities accumulated on its surface, which helps to maintain its filtration efficiency and prolong its service life.

Periodic Replacement: The filter element should be replaced regularly. Generally, it is recommended to replace the intake filter element after about half a year of use. However, this time period may vary depending on the filter material and the operating environment. In dusty or frequently used environments, the replacement frequency may need to be increased.
