Conventional filter media, such as traditional needle-punched felt and woven filter materials, operate based on the so-called "deep filtration" technology. This involves capturing particles initially on the surface of the filter media to form a "primary dust layer" (or dust cake), which then acts as a filter for subsequent dust particles. During the initial stages of use, due to the relatively large pores in the filter media, some dust particles may pass through and be emitted. The actual filtration process commences only after the dust cake is formed. Prolonged use leads to the gradual infiltration of dust particles into the filter media, causing pore blockage and a subsequent increase in operational resistance until the filter media must be replaced.
PTFE membrane-coated filter media, on the other hand, are a novel type of filter media formed by laminating a layer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film onto the surface of conventional filter media. This film effectively serves as the "primary dust layer," enabling material exchange to occur solely on the surface of the membrane, thereby facilitating efficient filtration from the very beginning of use. The unique three-dimensional mesh structure of the film prevents dust particles from passing through, eliminating the risk of pore blockage. This filtration method is known as "surface filtration." Membrane-coated filter media not only achieve near-zero emissions but also ensure long-term stability in equipment resistance due to the non-stick and low-friction properties of the film, which facilitate automatic shedding of the dust cake. As a result, they fully exploit the advantages of baghouse filters and represent an ideal choice of filtration material.
