Function and Importance
Filter Air: The main function of the Diesel Engine Air Filter Element is to filter the air entering the diesel engine. It prevents dust, sand, pollen, industrial pollutants, and other small particles from entering the engine during operation. For example, in a dusty environment such as a construction site, the air contains a large number of dust particles, and if there is no efficient air filter element, these dust will enter the engine interior with the intake process.
Ensure proper combustion: Clean air is essential for the full combustion of diesel. When air and diesel are mixed in the engine cylinder, the right air-fuel ratio ensures complete combustion of the fuel, thus providing the best power output for the engine. If the air entering the engine contains impurities, it will interfere with the mixture ratio of fuel and air, resulting in incomplete combustion, so that the engine power decreases and fuel consumption increases.
Protect engine components: By filtering the air, the air filter element can effectively protect the precision parts inside the engine. Parts like pistons, cylinder walls, valves, etc., can be worn out if they are exposed to air containing impurities for a long time. For example, tiny sand particles entering the engine can scrape the piston and cylinder walls like sandpaper, which can cause engine air leakage over time and reduce engine efficiency and service life.
Material and Structure

• Material type:
• Filter paper material: most diesel engine air filters use filter paper as the main filter material. This type of filter paper is usually made of cellulose or synthetic fibers. Cellulose fiber filter paper has good filtration performance and certain strength, and the price is relatively low. Synthetic fiber filter paper (such as polyester fiber) has better moisture resistance, chemical resistance and higher strength, which can provide more stable filtration in harsh environments.
• Multi-layer composite material: some high-end air filters use multi-layer composite material. For example, a layer of activated carbon material may be added to the filter paper. Activated carbon can adsorb harmful gases in the air, such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, etc., and further purify the air entering the engine. In addition, some filter elements are covered with a layer of metal or plastic mesh in the outer layer of the filter paper, which is used to enhance the overall structural strength of the filter element and prevent the filter paper from being damaged during installation or use.

Performance parameters and indicators

• Filtration efficiency: This is one of the key indicators to measure the performance of the air filter element. The filtration efficiency is usually expressed as a percentage, which reflects the ratio of the number of particles that the filter element can effectively filter out to the total number of particles that enter the filter element. For example, a filter element with a filtration efficiency of 99.9% means that only 1 particle out of 1000 particles entering the filter element can enter the engine through the filter element. The filter element with high filtration efficiency can better protect the engine, but at the same time it may have a certain resistance to the circulation of air.
• Air flow resistance: air through the filter will be subject to a certain resistance, the size of the resistance will affect the engine intake efficiency. Air flow resistance is usually measured in pascals (Pa) or inches of water (inH₂O). If the resistance is too large, the engine intake is insufficient, which will lead to a decrease in power. Therefore, an excellent air filter element needs to ensure high filtration efficiency while minimizing air flow resistance. In general, the new filter element air flow resistance is small, with the increase of use time and the accumulation of impurities, the resistance will gradually increase.
• Dust capacity: Dust capacity refers to the total amount of dust and other impurities that can be held by the filter element before it reaches the specified filtration efficiency decline. The larger the dust capacity, the longer the service life of the filter element. For example, a filter element with a dust capacity of 100 grams, after the accumulation of 100 grams of dust, its filtration efficiency may decline to meet the requirements of the normal operation of the engine, and it needs to be replaced in time. The size of the dust capacity is related to the material and structure of the filter element.
• Applicability and compatibility
• Engine type adaptation: Diesel Engine Air Filter Element has a variety of specifications, suitable for different types and power of diesel engines. From the engine of a small diesel generator to the engine of a large heavy truck and construction machinery, there are corresponding air filter elements. For example, the air intake of a small diesel engine is relatively small, and its suitable filter size and filtration capacity are relatively small; Large truck engines require a large amount of clean air, so they use larger filter sizes, higher filtration efficiency and dust capacity.
• Match to the filter housing: The filter element needs to match the specific air filter housing. Different brands and models of air filter housing may vary in size, shape, and installation. When selecting the air filter element, it is necessary to ensure that it can be properly installed in the corresponding housing, and can be well sealed and connected with the air inlet and outlet of the housing. Some air filters may also have a pre-filter device or other additional components, and the filter element also needs to be compatible with it to ensure the normal operation of the entire air filtration system.
