How to Replace Your Home's Air Filter? Read This Guide and You're Set!
Your home's central air conditioning, heating, and cooling systems rely on air filters to maintain optimal operating conditions. However, many people don't realize the importance of regularly replacing these air filters 😳. Timely filter replacement not only ensures proper air circulation in your home but also prolongs the lifespan of your AC system ✅. Today, let's walk through the steps of replacing your home's air filter 🔍.

1️⃣ Replacing the Air Filter in the Return Air Duct
First, unlock the latches on the grille and wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth. If there's dust between the slats, wrap the tip of a flathead screwdriver with a microfiber cloth and gently clean between the slats, or use a brush attachment to vacuum the cover. Insert a new filter, ensuring it's oriented correctly. Finally, close the grille and secure the latches.

2️⃣ Replacing the Air Filter in the Air Handler Cabinet
Remove or unlock the latches and clean as before. Next, check the filter type. If it's disposable, replace it with a new one of the correct size. If it's reusable, brush off surface dirt, vacuum embedded dust and dirt with a soft-bristled vacuum attachment, rinse the filter in water against the direction of airflow, and let it dry thoroughly before reinstallation. Do not restore power to the HVAC system until the cleaned and dried filter is in place.

3️⃣ Replacing the Air Filter in a Window Air Conditioner
Turn off the AC and unplug the unit. Remove the front cover and clean as instructed above. Take out the filter, shake vigorously outside to dislodge as much dust and dirt as possible. Gently wash the filter with soapy water, then rinse with clear water until clean. Scrub the cover with soapy water, rinse, and dry with a microfiber cloth. Allow the filter to dry completely before replacing it in the unit, aligning the slots on the filter frame with the spaces in the filter compartment. Replace the cover and restore power to the unit.

⚠️ Important Notes
Most filters have an arrow indicating the airflow direction. When placing the filter, ensure the arrow points towards the furnace, following the direction of airflow. Proper placement is crucial ❗️❗️. If the filter is not installed correctly, the system will consume more energy.
