The primary roles and functions of hydraulic system oil filters are:

  • To filter out solid particles, colloidal substances, and other impurities from the working medium.
  • To control the contamination level of the working medium, protecting delicate components of the hydraulic system from contamination damage.
  • To maintain the cleanliness of hydraulic oil, enhancing the stability and reliability of the hydraulic system.

Classification and Installation Positions

Based on installation positions and functions, hydraulic system oil filters can be categorized into several types, mainly including:

Suction Filter Element:

  • Installation Position: Located on the suction line of the pump or directly installed inside the oil tank.
  • Function: Filters out residues in the oil tank and contaminants entering through the air inlet, protecting the hydraulic pump from contamination.
  • Characteristics: Typically with a precision of 100-180μm, depending on the pump's self-priming capability, ensuring low filter resistance to prevent cavitation in the hydraulic pump.

Pressure Line Filter Element:

  • Installation Position: Placed on the outlet pipeline of the pump.
  • Function: Removes contaminants from the inlet oil, maintaining system cleanliness and consistent contamination levels.
  • Characteristics: High filtration precision (5-10μm), requiring high filter element strength and meeting ISO3724 test requirements.

Return Filter Element:

  • Installation Position: Installed on the return oil line of the system.
  • Function: Filters out newly generated or externally introduced contaminants in the system, preventing them from re-entering the oil tank and being sucked in by the hydraulic pump.
  • Characteristics: Although located on a low-pressure line, it may still be subjected to pulsation or pressure surges, necessitating strict requirements for the filter element.

Circulation Filter Element:

  • Installation Position: Located on the oil tank circulation loop.
  • Function: Used in systems with stringent cleanliness requirements, enabling the system to reduce contamination levels even when idle.
  • Characteristics: Requires fine filter elements with high filtration ratios.

Air Filter Element:

  • Installation Position: Mounted on the oil tank.
  • Function: Prevents contaminants from entering the oil tank along with air changes.
  • Characteristics: Large filter capacity to prevent micro-pore clogging, which could cause negative pressure inside the tank, leading to cavitation.

Materials and Construction

Hydraulic system oil filters are made from diverse materials, including stainless steel woven mesh, sintered mesh, iron woven mesh, etc. The filter media commonly used are glass fiber filter paper, chemical fiber filter paper, wood pulp filter paper, etc. The filter element's construction comprises single or multiple layers of metal mesh combined with filter media. The number of layers and the mesh size of the wire mesh are determined based on different operating conditions and applications. This structure imparts high concentricity, high pressure resistance, and good straightness to the filter element.

Customized filters of different specifications and models are available upon user's request.
